Project Summary
Problem
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Australia. Effective clinical research is crucial to develop new treatments and improve patient outcomes. However, recruiting participants for cardiovascular research is often slow, inefficient, and costly, hampering the progress of vital studies
Solution
The Join Us project aims to address these challenges by enrolling 30,000 individuals with CVD into a research register. This register will streamline the recruitment process for future cardiovascular research projects in Australia that have ethics committee approval. The Join Us platform, already operational, will scale to accommodate this new initiative. Implementation involves obtaining governance approvals, recruiting and training local staff, and coordinating efforts through The George Institute, which will invest up to $550,000 to support central coordination and local recruitment efforts.
Impact
The Join Us project will significantly enhance the efficiency of recruiting participants for cardiovascular research in Australia. By creating a large, ready-to-invite cohort of individuals with CVD, the project will accelerate the pace of research, reduce costs, and improve the quality of studies. It will also position Australia as a prime destination for national and international clinical research, fostering economic and employment benefits. Ultimately, this initiative will lead to better health outcomes for Australians by facilitating more robust and timely cardiovascular research.
